- install Lirc via the synaptic package manager.
- you need to obtain your remote name. open /etc/lirc/lircd.conf, at the end of this file is an #include directive for the actual configuration of your remote. open that file, look for the section 'begin remote', copy the value of 'name' exactly.
- open Lircmap.xml in your UserData_Folder. this file contains all the mappings for your remote.
- change the value of remote device to the name of the remote obtained from the lirc configuration.

Logitech Dual Action controller
You first need to download the Logitech Profiler software. The D-pad can be mapped to the arrow keys, the joystick can be mapped to the mouse, a button can be mapped to the enter key and another to the left mouse button.
- Install the Logitech Profiler software.
- Click "Select a Game" and direct it to the Boxee.exe program file.
- The default location is C:\Program Files\Boxee\Boxee.exe
- Click "Left Stick X-Axis" and select "Axis Properties"
- From the "Left Stick X-Axis mapped to:" drop down menu, select "Mouse X-Axis"
- Click "D-Pad" -> "Select Assignment" -> "New POV Assignment"
- Check the box by "FPS Style Movement"
- Click the "Edit" button under "Keystrokes and Commands"
- Record the keystroke for all the buttons you want to map
- For the D-Pad, the 4 arrow keys will be used. But this list of keystrokes is used throughout the program and so take the time to map the "Enter" key and any other you might be using.
You have to launch Boxee from the Logitech profiler in order for it to work.
