Boxee User Interface

The boxee user interface defaults to full screen mode since it is designed to be viewed on a television screen. You can change the display settings to force the application to appear in a window if you prefer (see Settings). You can use a mouse or a remote control to navigate the controls of the boxee user interface (UI).

Login Screen

When you first open the boxee program you will be presented with the login screen. Select your name to begin, or create a new user account:

Welcome Screen

After you successfully log in to your account you will be presented with the boxee Welcome screen. This screen gives you an overview of all recent activity. You can see things that your friends have recommended for you. You can see what media files your friends have recently viewed or listened to. You can see files that were recently added to your collection. And, you can see files that you recently used.

Sidebar Menu

You can access the sidebar menu by hovering your cursor over the tab on the left hand side of the screen. If you are using a remote control then click the left arrow (<<) on your remote to display the menu.

When expanded, the sidebar menu will look like this:

Settings

Select "Settings" from the Sidebar Menu:

The settings that you can modify are:

  • Media Sources and Applications - Detect and connect with local and network storage devices
  • Applications - Manage your applications and add new ones
  • Appearance - Look and feel and regional settings
  • Videos - Display and video playback settings
  • Music - Music playback and internet radio settings
  • Pictures - Slideshow settings
  • Network - Network related settings
  • System - Hardware and system settings
  • General - All kinds of other information
  • Credits - Who's behind this sweet stuff :)
